Configure key types

Select Key Types on the Key Management Settings card. Key types classify the site's inventory and appear as required choices when a key is created or edited.

Add a type

  1. Choose Add New Key Type in the Key Types selector.
  2. Enter a name.
  3. Select Save.

Name is the only configured field and is required. The portal does not check for duplicate or near-duplicate names. Search the existing list first and follow a consistent convention such as Building Master, Office, Mechanical, or Amenity.

Rename a type

Select an existing type, update Name, and select Save. The renamed value is used by key records that reference that same type.

Before renaming, consider searches, exports, procedures, and staff terminology that rely on the current label. A rename changes classification text; it does not create or remove keys and does not affect sign-in or sign-out state.

Delete a type

Delete appears after selecting an existing type. The confirmation does not show how many key records use it.

Before deleting:

  1. Open Key Management Settings and identify every key assigned to the type.
  2. Reassign those keys to an approved replacement type.
  3. Confirm the replacement appears correctly in the operational inventory and exports.
  4. Return to Key Types and delete the unused type.

The screen offers no restore action. A deletion can also be rejected when stored relationships still depend on the type; resolve those assignments rather than deleting data outside the portal.
