SMS audit¶
SMS Audit combines three kinds of messaging records so administrators can trace an SMS from queueing through provider delivery and review consent-related activity. This screen is available to platform administrators and is read-only.
Open General Administration and select SMS Audit. The initial scope is the previously selected site when present, or All Sites within the administrator's accessible list. The default date range is the preceding seven days.
Understand record types¶
| Record type | Source and purpose |
|---|---|
| Message | Provider-facing SMS log, including provider ID, status, delivery date, error, character count, and a body hash. |
| Consent | SMS compliance activity such as opt-in, opt-out, or pending consent. It can contain consent-message text. |
| Buffer | Notification queue item before or during sending, including body, destinations, readiness, attempts, claim time, and result. |
Global Consent records with no site assignment can appear even when one site is selected. They are labeled Global and should not be assumed to belong exclusively to the selected site.
Filter records¶
| Filter | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Site | One site or all accessible sites, plus applicable global Consent rows. |
| Record type | Message, Consent, or Buffer. |
| Status | Exact normalized status such as Delivered, Failed, Opted Out, Processing, or Queued. |
| Search | Searches record type, status, numbers, provider, provider ID, result, body hash, stored message, module ID, and entity ID. |
| From / Destination | Partial phone-number match. |
| Provider Message Id | Partial provider-identifier match. |
| Module Id | Exact numeric module identifier. |
| From / To date | Filters the record's Created time. |
All Sites uses UTC for date inputs; one selected site uses its configured time zone. Changing site preserves the absolute interval while converting the displayed filter values. Select Apply after changing advanced filters. Clear resets the range to the preceding seven days.
Interpret statuses¶
Statuses describe different stages and depend on record type:
- Submitted, Accepted, Buffered, Pending, Processing, Queued, and Waiting are intermediate states, not proof of delivery.
- Delivered indicates the provider reported delivery for a Message record.
- Sent indicates a Buffer record completed its send processing; confirm the resulting Message status when delivery evidence is required.
- Rejected, Failed, Expired, Undeliverable, Blocked, and Error require review of Result and provider data.
- Opted In and Opted Out are consent states. Do not send operational or marketing messages contrary to the applicable consent policy.
- Unknown or Recorded means the available source did not provide a more specific delivery state.
The grid displays Created, Site, Record Type, Status, From, Destination, Provider, Provider Message Id, Characters, Attempts, Status Date, Completed, and Result. Records is the complete filtered count; rows are loaded in pages and initially sorted newest first.
SMS record details¶
Open the eye action or double-click a row. Details can include:
- created, status, claimed, completed or delivered, and valid-send dates;
- source and destination numbers;
- provider and provider message identifier;
- character and attempt counts;
- result or error;
- stored message text or a SHA-256 body hash;
- module, entity, record, and site identifiers.
A Message record normally exposes the body hash rather than the complete message body. Consent and Buffer records can contain stored message text. The body hash can help compare whether content was identical without revealing it, but it cannot reconstruct the original message.
Warning
Phone numbers, consent state, and message content are sensitive. Do not export, screenshot, or paste them into an unrestricted support channel.
SMS Audit cannot retry, cancel, delete, or alter a message or consent record. Correct the originating notification, destination, consent state, provider configuration, or queue condition through the approved workflow.
