Device administration troubleshooting¶
A device is missing¶
- Confirm the correct client and site.
- Select All Sites within the intended client and refresh.
- Confirm that the site is active and is assigned to your administrator account.
- Verify through the approved deployment process that the device completed registration and communicated with TEKControl.
Inactive sites are not included in this inventory view. A device that has never successfully registered may not have a record to display.
The page says permission denied¶
Device Administration requires site-administrator-level access or higher and is unavailable to limited administrators. Ask an authorized administrator to verify your role and site assignments. Do not broaden access solely to work around a missing menu.
Last login is blank or old¶
A blank value means no device-login date is recorded. An old value can reflect an offline device, an unused deployment, connectivity trouble, an application or registration problem, or a device that has been replaced.
The inventory page does not test connectivity or show a live online status. Compare the site-time-zone timestamp with device-side logs, network records, and the relevant deployment or support tooling.
The last login user looks wrong¶
Confirm the device UID and site before investigating the user. The field shows the most recently recorded user association, not guaranteed current possession. Review the applicable account and operational audit sources rather than changing the device name to correct the user field.
IMEI, phone, make, model, or firmware is wrong¶
Those fields are read-only here. Capture the device UID, site, incorrect value, expected value, and time observed, then use the approved device-registration or support process. Renaming the device does not update hardware metadata.
The device name will not save¶
The name is required. Use a nonblank value of no more than 50 characters and remove unusual control characters. If saving still fails, preserve the exact message and verify that the device record still exists by refreshing the grid.
There is no add, reassign, disable, or delete button¶
That is the current design of Device Administration, not a hidden permission. The screen inventories registered devices and permits display-name changes only.
Do not repurpose the name to simulate deactivation or reassignment. Follow the organization's deployment, revocation, replacement, or data-retention process and escalate to the configuration or support owner that manages the device lifecycle.
